487th Bomb Group (H)
Station 137 - Lavenham, Suffolk, UK
22-Sep-43 to 7-Nov-45

Sherrill Crew - 839th Squadron
Back row (L to R): Robert J. Van Sice (armorer-gunner), unknown, Samuel J. Evans (engineer-gunner), unknown, S/Sgt Larry A. Cundiff (gunner), Edward M. Wonnacott (radio operator)
Front row (L to R): Lawrence E. Pachoud Jr (copilot), Lt Stephen H. Sherrill Jr (pilot), William Friedland (navigator), Harold E. Sandusky (bombardier)
This photo was taken in the States shortly before the Sherrill crew flew across the Atlantic to England. William Friedland doesn't remember any changes to the crew during the final stage of crew training, so the two unknowns in the back row are probably Leo J. Hotaling (engineer-gunner) and Thomas W. Hoffman (gunner). Mr. Friedland remembers that Samuel J. Evans was always smiling, and was a sort of 'cheerleader' for the crew. He also remembers that the crewmen, officers and enlisted, got along well with each other.
