The Gentlemen From Hell





The above is a modern replica of the "Gentlemen from Hell" patch that was worn by some of the original crew of the 487th Bomb Group (H). The re-discovery of the patch occurred because of the work of Bob Jacobs, son of Jimmy Jacobs (navigator with the 836th squadron). Until the 1999 reunion, no original patches had come to light. But at that reunion, in 2 separate conversations, both Gerry Ogle, son of George Ogle (flight engineer with the 837th squadron) and I heard from Ed Wilkowski that he had his old patch. By the time of the 2000 reunion, Ed had presented Gerry with his patch, and Gerry had it elegantly framed for preservation.
